The very first scene in Carrie it opened with a hight angle shot/ birds eye view of the girls playing volleyball, by using this shot it gives the audience an idea where the film is going to be set.
The following scene was the famous shower scene. This scene started with a pan through the girls changing rooms in slow motion, I think this scene gives the audience a false vision on what a girls changing rooms is like because girls in changing rooms don't go around naked and they don't play around with each other.
The shower scene where Carrie starts her period I think there was different cuts used to make the scene look a little more dramatic. When Carrie is washing herself there was jump cuts used from when she was washing her chest to her legs. During this part of the scene close ups were used to show Carrie washing herself. In my opinion I think that the the camera angles used in this scene made it look dramatic and made the audience feel like something bad was going to happen and later on it did. When Carrie ran out of the changing rooms with blood on her hands the camera was behind her giving the sense that the audience is on her side when all the other girls in the changing room are just laughing at her. High and low angles were used when the other girls were throwing pads and tampons at her, the high angle made the audience feel like they were on of the horrible girls. Also when the low angle was used it put the audience in Carrie's shoes and made them feel vulnerable and bullied.
When the teacher came to stop the bullying and calm Carrie down, I thought this was a very important scene becuase at this point it was made clear that the film was horror. Carrie gets angry and screams and while she screams she blows the light and psycho strings play, the psycho strings give away that the film is horror.

Aristotle Theory
Basic element of a narrative according to Aristotle
Aristotle believes that the most important is the plot, and the ordering of the incidents.
Action needs to represent life and the question of what is right or wrong. (Perception)
Mary Whitehouse
Mary believed that if violence was on our televisions then society will be violent.
Plato
Plato believed that we get our inspiration from God
Claude Levi-Strauss
Claude believed in binary opposition
"that all narratives had to be driven forward by conflict that was caused by a series of opposing forces"
This means that how would we know what it felt to be happy if we didn't feel sadness.

Todorov's Narrative Theory
Todorov's theory include the theory of narratives.
Todorov's theory of narratives:
Todorov's theory of narratives:
- A state of equilibrium (everything starts of peaceful)
- A disruption of that order by an event
- A recognition that the disorder has occurred
- An attempt to repair the damage of the disruption
- Reinstatement - New equilibrium
Propp's Character Theory
Propp developed a character theory that can be applied to fairytales, but they can be applied to some horror films.
Propp's Character Theory:
- The Hero (saves the princess, and falls in love with her)
- The Villain ( tries to harm the princess and fights with the hero)
- The Donor (helps the hero by providing a magic object)
- The Dispatcher ( sends the hero on his way)
- The False Hero ( falsely assuming the role of the hero)
- The Helper (gives support to the hero)
- The Princess ( the reward for the hero but also needs to be protected from the villain)

Scream
Scream is a very jumpy film that will get you sitting at the edge of your seats.
The front cover of the DVD is a extreme close up of the main victims face with her eyes widened, symbolising she is sacred and in danger. Also there is a hand over her mouth making it look like she has seen something shocking and that she is really scared. The colours used are quite dark and could be linked to death.
At the beginning of the film its starts off with showing different clips from all the screams that have been had after the first one. This is a good way to draw the audience in because they would be showing the best bits in the film convincing the audience to watch all of the screams.
The opening scene of the film was one of the main characters in her home making pop corn. The opening scene sets the scene because it shows the audience that the film is going to be mostly set in a house. I think it is very effective to start the film in a house because the audience think that they are safe in their homes but just at the start of the film it changes the way the audience will think and what places they fill safe. A tracking shot is used to follow the character around her house showing the audience inside her home and also setting the scene. Also I pointed out that when the tracking shot was used I could see that there was many windows and door in her house indicating that the villain could get in in any one of them. Before the phone call everything seemed normal, once the phone rang we would sense something was going to happen. At first the phone call seemed normal and nothing seemed that weird but when the man on the other end said "whats your name, so I know who I'm looking at" the audience can tell that something bad is going to happen and the man on the other ned of the phone is strange and wants to hurt her.
When the first victim was being chased she came face to face with the villain before she dies she pulled off the mask the villain was wearing but we couldn't see his face instead all we saw was blackness. The blackness could be linked to death because black seems a dark colour and at funerals the colour people wear is black so there is a strong link to the colour black with death.
The mask that the villains wear is a simple but scary mask, I think it is very effective that the costumes makers picked a simple mask because people wouldn't forget it that easily, they will remember it and it will continue to make them scared.
Fast pace cutting was used when the victims was trying to escape from the villains this created the effect that the viewers will feel their hearts racing. It also made the scenes seem more jumpy and could scare the audience more easily.
Every time the victims got the phone call from the villain it was always at night time, this could be because at night it is harder to see whats around us and also it makes it more scary for the viewer watching.
The message I got from this film was that you have to understand the rules of horror films to live. The innocent boy who understands the rules of horror films explains it to his friends but they think he's talking rubbish but he proves that he was right because he survives at the end of the film.
He says that there are three rules in horror films which are:

- Never have sex
- Don't get drunk and don't take drugs
- And never say i'll be right back because you won't
At the end of the film Sydney's boyfriend uses the quote from 'Psycho' "We all go a little mad sometimes" at this point in the film I figured out that he was the one killing the people. Also the villain references to 'Carrie' saying that he used corn syrup instead of blood. I think it was a very good twist to the end of the film because the makes the audience feel really unsafe because the people who we feel safe around could really be the one hurting us.
