Evaluation Question 1
All of
our three products have been influenced by real media texts in some ways, but
we have also challenged forms and conventions because it improved the overall
look of the products.

Text included in our trailer
The text we included in our trailer linked very well to our story line and through the text we were able to make the story line clear to the audience. The font of the text we wanted to keep the same as the font for the title of the film poster 'Twister', the font was found on the website dafont and it fitted perfectly with the theme horror. The font was called 'face your fears' and we used it throughout our trailer, film poster and magazine front cover.
The first line of text stated that there were four best friends and we made the word 'best' the colour blood red so it would link to our film poster.Although in our narrative there were five best friends the hidden secret was held by just four of them so we thought it would be more clear of writing four instead of five.
This is where the tension in our trailer would start to build up because the first text was just informing the audience how many friends there are and this starts to build them up to something bad. The hidden secret tell the audience that the girls have a hidden secret that they do not want any one to find out. Again we have changed the colour of the middle text to blood red keeping the running theme throughout all of the products we have created.
This line builds even more tension because at this point the audience know that the trailer is about four best friends who have hidden a really big secret and this sets the audience up for something big, because someone who wants to get revenge is going to make them pay for the hidden secret.
Costumes
We thought about the miss-en-scene very carefully because all the costumes had a reason why the girls were wearing what they were wearing. The idea behind the costumes were that they were at a fancy dress party where they got the first text and then that whole night their lives were turned upside down. Each of the costumes reflected each of the girls personalities.

Photo for magazine front cover
Originally we were going to use a photo where it included all of the girls because we wanted that to be our running theme throughout each of our products. After we started creating the front cover we were acing trouble fitting all of the girls on the page and when we tried to fit it the photos either looked too long or too wide, so we have the decision to cut the girls who were on the edge in the photograph. This was a decision we had to make to improve the overall look of the front cover and it had things a lot easier for us adding the tittles and text around the edges. The reason why we cut the two girls who were on the edges was because one of the girls had a slight smile which would have distracted from the whole front cover and it would subvert the genre horror. Also the girls that we kept in the photo were the main girls that were featured more in the trailer.

How we created the grave effect in our film poster?
The inspiration for our film poster we got from the very successful American series call Pretty Little liars.
We liked the idea of the girls looking into the grave because it has a clear link with our trailer and what happened in the past of what the girls had done. The grave symbolises that they have buried someone but doesn't give too much away revealing who they have buried, and also it also shows that they have also buried the secret and because the grave is open it shows that the secret is going to be dug up.
Creating the effect of the girls looking into the grave we used a rectangle box where we cut a hole where the lens of the camera would fit and it will reveal the sides of the box giving it the effect that it is a grave.
The day we took the photos for our poster and magazine cover it was quite windy, so it made the box move around a lot and bend which made it harder to capture the perfect photo which was clear. I think this idea links to our trailer and narrative very strongly because we have running themes that link everything together and they help the audience understand the story behind the trailer.

Final version of our film poster
I think our film poster is very strong and links in very well with our trailer. The idea behind the poster was that we wanted the girls to be looking into a grave and it links to the trailer because they had done something very bad in the past where it involved them killing someone and then burying them and the secret. We were able to show this by putting the camera in a box and just showing the sides of the box. The original photo didn't have that much of the sides in it so I cut that part out and reflected it and placed it where it was needed. The name of the trailer is 'Twisted' matches the personalities of each of the girls because what they had done in the past makes them twisted and nasty because they had just killed their best friends boyfriend, but they decided to keep it a secret between them.
The tag line 'The truth will never stay buried' is short and sweet. It matches well with the story line throughout the trailer, and it also has a lot of meaning as well, because the truth can only be hidden for a short amount of time until it is revealed. When the truth is revealed later on the consequences seem to be worser and the issue is bigger.
The credits I changed one by one adding each of the names of the actors, directors and all the people who helped throughout.

Poster and Magazine Photos
The photos we took for our magazine cover and poster turned out every well. Before we planned out the photos really well by trying our idea before, so we knew that it would work. The day before we informed our actors what they needed to wear and what they needed to bring, so everyone knew what they were doing and we could get to work quickly. After trying the first idea where the girls are made to look like they are looking into a grave, we found that it worked better when we were standing on a chair. We added some element of horror by applying mud to our actors making them look like they have been running though the woods and to make them look like they have gone through a lot.
Filming
Filming for the trailer has gone well, but there were some set backs that we had to over come as a group. The first week back after the Christmas half term we got most of the filming done, but looking through the footage we had to film some of the scenes again. The reason why we had to film some of the scenes again was of the lighting, sometimes the light was too dark which lost the quality of the video. Also of the actors were either smiling or laughing, this was the main problem we had with looking through our footage because most of the time our actors didn't have serious faces.
Filming tested how well we worked as a group because we needed to communicate each day letting each other know when we are free to film and to see what each of us had that we could use to film. Another set back we had to deal with was the weather, but this we could not control. For the first week of filming we were really lucky that it didn't rain and this helped us get all the filming done on time. On the second week of filming the weather wasn't too good, because on some of the days we were filming it rained so we had to finish early.

Finished Filming
After the Christmas half term we went straight into filming because we had many different scenes that would take a while to film. We created a group chat on Watsapp informing all the actors when they were needed and what they needed to wear. Week 1 of filming went well but some of the actors messed around so filming took longer then we wanted. Week 2 went much better because all the actors were more focused so in one day we were able to film more scenes to go towards our horror trailer. Everyday after school our group and the actors stayed after school until 6pm filming the scenes we needed and will lead us to finish the filming quicker than expected because we finished filming on the 14th of January. Overall filming went well for us because we knew what scenes we wanted and had a clear idea of how we want everything. The set backs we did face were the actors messing around and not being available and also the weather. When we were filing we were lucky because on most of the days it didn't rain but on the second to last day it rained heavy so we were a bit rushed to get all the footage done, but the weather was very cold.

Photo Shoot for our poster and magazine cover
On Monday 6th of January it was our first day back after the Christmas holidays and in our group we decided that we wanted to take the photos for our poster and magazine front cover. Prior to monday we created a group chat of Watsapp including our group members and cast. This allowed us to tell them when they were needed and for what reason, in the group chat we were also able to tell them what they needed to bring and what time they were needed. For the photos all the cast were asked to wear a going out dress and heels, the reason we asked them to wear this was because it shows that they are not like everyone else and also shows that they are popular which we stated in the narrative.
For our casting we choose to have five girls and I am one of them. The problem we are having is that five girls are quite hard to handle because some of them mess around and don't listen. Also we have to work out when the girls are available to film and how long they can stay after school for. The lighting outside is working against us because by the time all the girls are dressed its already getting dark outside, so this means we are having less time to film.
When we arrived for the shoot our group had a clear idea of what we wanted our photos to look like and me and my group member Precious had practiced the idea earlier in the day, so we wouldn't waste time for the real thing. On this day it was very windy and cold but luckily the rain had stopped so we could still take our time. All of the girls were wearing short sleeved dresses so we were trying to work as quickly as possible because it was cold and we didn't want them to get ill. After we took a couple of photos they were what we wanted but they didn't link to horror so we decided to put mud on the girls to link in with the idea of the photo. At first the cast was not vey happy with this idea but once it was done they just went along with the idea. These photos were taken outside near the back of the school where it was just field and trees. This set the scene for the posters and the trailer.
After about an hour and a half we decided to take some photos in our photo studio at school because we wanted a variety of different shot and angles that work best for the poster and magazine front cover. The reason why we wanted to take our photos first before filming was because it gives us more time to play around with different ideas and see what works best.

Inspiration For Our Poster and Magazine Cover
Our trailer idea is similar to the American series Pretty Little Liars and looking at their posters we have took pieces from each of them and we are going to use them for our posters. At first we wanted our poster to be similar to the top left poster because each of the girls will be wearing the same coat but they will be hiding different secrets. The problem we had with this idea was that it was going to be hard for the girls to have the same coat and we didn't want to spend any money on their outfits. The other idea was had was the girls standing in a forrest area and the main girl will be holding the shovel. This idea was our strongest and it will be the one we take forward because each of the girls will be displayed clearly and it will show their personalities well. The reason why we wanted to include the shovel in the photo was because it will give the audience a clue about what they have done but it isn't what you think. The shovel symbolises that they have buried a big secret. Also the girls will be wearing dresses which shows that they are popular and sophisticated, and also they will be covered in mud a little which will link in well with the trailer.
Shooting Scedule
6th January - Taking photos for our poster and magazine cover. All of our characters will be needed for this shoot because they will all feature on the posters. The five best friends will be wearing dresses, this will make them look popular and also mysterious. The will not be smiling in the photos because by them smiling the posters will not look serious and we want to give the effect that they are hiding something big. The reason why me and my group wanted to get the photos for the poster and magazine cover out the way was because we thought that because we have the resources at home we will be able to complete these tasks at home and finish them so we could focus more on the trailer. Also on this day we want to shoot the scene which would be the very first scene in our trailer, this scene will include all the girls walking through the corridor of their school, and all the other students of the school will part as they walk through. This gives the effect that they are popular and no one messes with them.
7th January - On this day we will be shooting our biggest scene which is the party scene. This will be the hardest to shoot because it doesn't just involve the five best friends but involves lots of other background characters. In this scene we will have a lot of different characters as well as the girls because we want to make the party scene look as real as possible. All the characters in this scene will be wearing fancy dress and they will look like they are having a good time dancing and singing. The reason why we chose the location to be at school was because we thought it was easier for our characters to be available for the scene. Also on this day we want film the scene where the girls have fallen asleep and when they wake up they notice that Tiffany has gone missing. This scene will be filmed at the house we have at school, but we might need to bring blankets to make the scene look more realistic.
8th January - As we have the big scene out of the way we will then film the scene where Aisha is holding Stephanie in her arms and crying, this will be shot at a high angle and then panning down to both of them. The scene will be shot in the forrest next to our school, this is the perfect place for us because it is next to our school and this gives us easy access to all the equipment. Also on this day we will shoot a running scene of the different girls running away and trying to look for Tiffany, after this scene is filmed we will add a heavy breathing sound of the scene to make the audience panic as the breathing gets heavier and heavier.
